Before the installation begins
When the installation day is set, your sales associate will go over what you need to do before the installers arrive. It is likely the following tasks will be on your list:
- Schedule your time so that you will be present during the installation, there are times when
last minute decisions will be required - Arrange for children and pets to stay away from the installation work site and the installers vehicles
- Clear the space of all furniture, furnishings and decorative items and appliances; natural or propane gas appliance require a licensed professional to disconnect and reconnect the appliance
- Remove and dispose of old flooring
- Completely clear an area adjacent to the installation space for the installers to use to work in; both the installation space and work area should have power, adequate lighting and water available; the temperature needs to be above 65 degrees
- Materials that tend to expand and contract, like hardwood, will be delivered ahead of time and allowed to acclimate to your home
Installation day
The installation crew will review the plan of work that includes details of the installation like where joints and seams go, direction of carpet's nap, pattern for laying tile, etc. While the crew is installing the flooring, take a peek but hard as it will be, stay out of their way. When they have finished, you walk through the space, admiring your new floor and noting any adjustments.
